Join the global commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign this year running from 25 November – 10 December 2021.
The annual international campaign for the elimination of violence against women and girls was started at the inaugural Women’s Global leadership Institute in 1991 by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL). This year marks 30 years since the campaign was launched, over the past 3 decades, the campaign has been used as a strategy for organizing individuals and organizations all over the world to demand the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
This year’s global theme is “Orange the world: End violence against women now!” The Global 16 Days Campaign is continuing the multi-year theme of ending GBV in the world of work. This year, the commemorations are paying special attention to domestic violence, and how it impacts victims and survivors in both formal and informal workplaces. As Word Smash Poetry Movement we see an opportunity for poetry and social media to join forces. We are capturing and sharing solidarity voices of poets and human rights defenders who are preventing violence on women and girls and reducing femicide that this violence leads to.
In as much as the campaign is about 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, we can do more for a longer period of time. As you join the initiative, let’s turn the #16Days of Activism into 365 days of action! Here’s some advice from activists around the world on everyday actions we can all take to #OrangeTheWorld and help end violence against women: HERE.
